When: 4 p.m. Where: Siegel Center, Richmond. Records: Patriots 14-4, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association; Rams 14-5, 7-1. TV: ESPN2. Radio: WTEM (980 AM).

MAN DOWN: Facing their most difficult road game of the season, the Patriots will be without senior G John Vaughan for just the second time in the past three seasons. Vaughan, who is tied for the team lead at 11.6 points per game and is the best three-point shooter among the Patriots' regulars at 41.3 percent, suffered a concussion during a 58-57 loss at Northeastern on Wednesday. If Coach Jim Larranaga stays with a three-guard lineup, freshman Andre Cornelius (6.5 ppg) likely will start. Another option is to insert freshman F Ryan Pearson (7 ppg, 4.1 rpg).

THE CREAM RISES: The Patriots and Rams are joined atop the CAA standings with Northeastern (12-6, 7-1), which visits Old Dominion (11-7, 4-4) tonight. VCU will host Northeastern on Tuesday. Despite the proximity of the schools and the intense rivalry in recent years, George Mason and VCU will not face each other again during the regular season. The Patriots defeated the Rams in Fairfax last season after losing all three meetings in 2006-07.

THE MAIN MAN: Rams senior G Eric Maynor (22.1 ppg) is the CAA's leading scorer by a wide margin and is also first in assists (6.2). Back-court partner Joey Rodriguez, a sophomore, leads the league in three-point accuracy (46.7 percent) and steals (2.4). The Rams, who have won six games in a row and are 8-0 at home, have the CAA's best scoring average (73.7 ppg) while the Patriots are first in scoring defense (59.4) and have not yielded 70 points since the fourth game of the season.
