When: 7 p.m. Where: Constant Convocation Center, Norfolk. Records: Patriots 15-5, 8-2 Colonial Athletic Association; Monarchs 12-8, 5-5. TV: Comcast SportsNet. Radio: WWRC (1260 AM).
BACK IN ACTION: Senior G John Vaughan, who has missed two games since suffering a concussion, has been cleared to play, but it remains unclear whether he will start and play his usual 30-plus minutes. Freshman Andre Cornelius has replaced him in the lineup, and after struggling against Virginia Commonwealth, he had eight points and four rebounds in Tuesday's 78-55 victory over Delaware. Sophomore Isaiah Tate has provided a back-court lift with 17 points in the past two games.
TIGHTENING UP: With eight league games remaining, the Patriots are tied with VCU for second place, one game behind Northeastern. This afternoon, the Rams visit Hofstra and the Huskies host Delaware. George Mason defeated Old Dominion, 61-53, on Jan. 10 at Patriot Center, but has lost four straight and five of six in Norfolk. The Patriots (60 points allowed per game) and Monarchs (61.2) are second and third, respectively, in the CAA in scoring defense.
LEADING THE WAY: Patriots sophomore G Cam Long leads the team in scoring (12.2) and assists (3.7) and is second in rebounds (4.7). The Monarchs (8-3 at home) won at James Madison on Wednesday and are seeking their first winning streak since a seven-game tear in December. Junior F Gerald Lee (14.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and sophomore G-F Ben Finney (10.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg) are their top scoring threats.
