One man was fatally shot near a Camp Springs nightclub early yesterday and another died in an unrelated shooting Friday evening in District Heights, Prince George's County police said.

Darryl M. Robinson, 28, was found shot just before 3 a.m. near the Tradewinds club in the 5800 block of Allentown Way. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a police spokesman, said it was unclear whether Robinson, of the 2200 block of Ramblewood Drive in District Heights, was a club patron or whether the shooting was related to the club. A message left at Tradewinds seeking a comment was not returned yesterday.

In 2007, county police briefly suspended Tradewinds' license, along with those of several other clubs, after 11 killings in 11 days that police connected to county clubs. A man was seriously wounded in March in a shooting outside the club.

In Friday's killing, police said a 19-year-old Laurel man was shot by another man who was playing with a handgun.

Donnell F. Mintz Jr. of the 9500 block of Muirkirk Road was shot about 6:15 p.m. in the 7700 block of Starshine Drive in District Heights. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Police arrested Edward L. Towles, 19, of the 600 block of Otis Place NE. In a statement, police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Towles was playing with a handgun when Mintz was shot.

Towles was charged with second-degree murder and was being held yesterday in the county jail.
