When: 7 p.m. Where: Patriot Center. Records: Patriots 15-6, 8-3 Colonial Athletic Association; Pride 14-8, 6-5. TV: ESPNU. Radio: WTNT (570 AM).
CLOSE CALLS: With three losses in four games, the Patriots have slipped into a third-place tie with Drexel -- one game behind Virginia Commonwealth and two behind Northeastern. All three defeats came on the road, including a 73-71 loss at Old Dominion on Saturday. Their six overall losses have come by one, two, three, four, five and six points, respectively. The Patriots are 10-0 at home, have won 12 straight at Patriot Center dating from last February, and are 23-1 there the past two seasons.
GETTING MINUTES: Look for Patriots Coach Jim Larranaga to continue increasing freshman F Ryan Pearson's playing time after he scored a career-high 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting in 21 minutes Saturday. Pearson, who is averaging 7.6 points and shooting 51 percent, is unlikely to become a starter because junior F Louis Birdsong (7.6 ppg) is shooting 56 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line. However, Pearson's play might prompt Larranaga to alter the three-guard, two-forward setup more often.
SHOWING SOME PRIDE: The Pride's four-game winning streak ended Saturday with a 66-62 loss at home to VCU. Hofstra leads the CAA in field goal shooting defense (38.7) while George Mason is first in shooting (46.5). Pride sophomore G Charles Jenkins is second in the league in scoring at 18 ppg.
