Top Players Lost: C Edwin Williams, WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, CB Kevin Barnes, LB Moise Fokou, PK Obi Egekeze, DL Jeremy Navarre.

Needs Addressed: The class, which is ranked No. 26 by Rivals.com, addressed several needs, including the goal to keep local talent at home. Thirteen members of the class hail from the Washington-Baltimore area. Maryland took another step in reloading at offensive line, securing the touted Pete White, who was rated the nation's No. 5 guard by Scout.com. Coach Ralph Friedgen's biggest concern is linebacker, where the Terrapins will be particularly inexperienced. Ryan Donohue and Bradley Johnson could have opportunities to contribute early.

Best in Class: Defensive back Travis Hawkins played cornerback, quarterback, running back and wide receiver in high school. Rated as the fifth-best player in Maryland, Hawkins is an "outstanding football player," Friedgen said. "When he is on the field, things happen."

Sleeper: Keep an eye on the progress of defensive back Dexter McDougle. Friedgen called him a "big-play guy" and an excellent athlete. He will be a cornerback at Maryland.

One Who Got Away: Jelani Jenkins, the All-Met Defensive Player of the Year, will play at Florida.

Coach Ralph Friedgen: "We lost a lot of linebackers, offensive linemen and defensive linemen. I feel we have been able to meet those needs with this class. [We have a] big, athletic bunch of athletes who can run and hit. They are also good students."
