Needs Filled: Virginia lost its top five pass catchers from 2008, including both starting wide receivers. Coach Al Groh hauled in a class of at least three wide receivers, and possibly six depending on pending position decisions.

Best in Class: Morgan Moses was Virginia's Signing Day boon. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound tackle is one of the nation's top offensive line prospects and could be the next offensive line standout under Groh.

Sleeper: Wide receiver Bobby Smith committed to Virginia late in the process and might take time to develop, but the 6-6 Richmond native provides rare size for an incoming freshman wide receiver. Groh views him as an eventual red-zone threat.

One Who Got Away: Defensive end Lanford Collins has the measurements to play outside linebacker in Groh's 3-4 scheme, but the Cavaliers lost this recruiting battle to rival Virginia Tech.

Coach Al Groh: "It's a class that makes us a lot taller on both sides of the ball -- you'll note there's a lot of 6-6, 6-7 players in this particular class -- and it's a class that makes us a lot faster. This class cumulatively brings more speed than has been the case, and we certainly intend to take advantage of that."
