Women: Duke Beats Virginia

Jasmine Thomas scored 22 points and No. 4 Duke used an 11-0 run to pull away in the second half for an 81-67 victory over No. 17 Virginia last night in Charlottesville.

Karima Christmas added 18 points for Duke (19-2, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), which used a 27-9 run to end the first half to take the lead and never let the Cavaliers get any closer than three again.

Virginia (18-5, 4-5) lost its 15th consecutive meeting with Duke. The Cavaliers came in on a three-game winning streak.

· AUBURN 72, MISSISSIPPI 65: DeWanna Bonner had 23 points and Whitney Boddie had two free throws and a layup late, lifting the No. 6 Tigers over the visiting Rebels.

Auburn (22-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) survived after blowing a 12-point lead.

The Rebels (14-9, 3-5) had won two straight at Auburn.

· NORTH CAROLINA 93, VIRGINIA TECH 77: Rashanda McCants scored 23 points to help the No. 8 Tar Heels beat the visiting Hokies.

Jessica Breland added 20 points for North Carolina (20-3, 5-2 ACC).

Lindsay Biggs scored 21 points for Virginia Tech (11-12, 1-7).
