Shots Might Have Been Hunters'

The president of Mount St. Mary's University said deer hunters might have fired the gunshots heard on campus Friday night, hours after a student discovered a bullet hole in a dormitory room.

College officials restricted movements on the Frederick County campus from 10:20 p.m. until midnight to investigate four gunshots heard by a student and campus police. Earlier in the day, a student had reported that a bullet was fired into her dorm room.

Thomas Powell, the university president, said investigators had not determined whether the incidents were related or if the bullets had been fired on campus or in the hills nearby.
