Freed from the shackles of the Heat's half-court offense in a deal for Fs Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon, F Shawn Marion hopes a trade to the Raptors returns him to the run-and-gun style he once played with the Suns.
"The game is supposed to be exciting," Marion said yesterday as he and G Marcus Banks were introduced to Toronto reporters. "I'm tired of playing that boring style in the half court, watching everybody just go up and run plays, call this play. That's boring. The fans don't enjoy it either. People like to see you get up and down, have high-scoring games and dunks and all that stuff. That's what it's about."
· THUNDER: Oklahoma City acquired C Tyson Chandler from the Hornets in a deal for former Maryland stars Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox.
New Orleans appeared to be shedding salary in an uncertain local economy by adding two contracts that expire at the end of the season.
· KINGS: Veteran G Sam Cassell was acquired from the Celtics for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2015.
Cassell, 39, hasn't played this season. The deal decreases Boston's luxury tax obligations.
· ROCKETS: Owner Leslie Alexander said that oft-injured star Tracy McGrady won't be dealt before tomorrow's trade deadline. McGrady sat out last night's game against the Nets as he seeks input from doctors on his troublesome left knee.
· TELEVISION: Hall of Famer Charles Barkley will return from his leave of absence and be on the air tomorrow night during TNT's NBA coverage.
Barkley, 45, was arrested Dec. 31 in Scottsdale, Ariz., and his leave began Jan. 9. Police said he had a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit in Arizona.
