Two Administrations Agree on Detainees' Rights

President Obama's administration sided with the Bush administration in court, arguing in a new filing that detainees in Afghanistan have no constitutional rights and cannot use U.S. courts to challenge their detention. The Supreme Court last summer gave al-Qaeda and Taliban suspects held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the right to such challenges. After Obama took office, a federal judge in Washington gave the new administration a month to decide whether it wanted to stand by the previous administration's legal argument.
