INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 21 -- Baltimore Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said here Saturday that he's hopeful of re-signing prospective free agent linebackers Ray Lewis and Bart Scott.
The Ravens used their franchise player tag on defensive end and outside linebacker Terrell Suggs instead of using it on Lewis or Scott.
The club is attempting to sign Suggs to a long-term contract instead of having him play under a one-year franchise player deal.
Newsome said the Ravens "are involved in active negotiations" with all three players.
Asked whether he's optimistic about keeping all three, Newsome said: "Yes, at this point."
Warner Back to Cards?
Arizona Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves said he's optimistic about re-signing quarterback Kurt Warner, perhaps before the free agent market opens Friday.
"We're continuing to negotiate and we're just looking forward to getting a deal done, hopefully sooner rather than later," Graves said at the NFL scouting combine.
Warner reportedly has decided to continue playing after saying at the Super Bowl that he would consider retirement. He is eligible for unrestricted free agency. . . .
Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, considered one of the top players available in this year's NFL draft, reportedly will need surgery to repair a slight stress fracture in his left foot.
According to the NFL Network, Crabtree will have a screw surgically inserted in his foot. He'll be sidelined for at least 10 weeks and probably will have his pro-day workout for NFL scouts canceled, according to the report.
Crabtree is expected to be healed by the time NFL training camps open in the summer, according to the report.
Executives with several NFL teams said in recent days they expected Crabtree to be one of the first five players drafted in April. It's unclear how his draft status will be affected, if at all.
