Flint Hill junior guard-forward K.C. Whitaker came off the bench to score 19 points, Jawuan Lockhart had 14 assists and Jeremy Glover added 22 points to lift the host Huskies to the Mid-Atlantic Conference tournament title with a 78-63 win over Potomac School yesterday.
"I was the main player on my old team," said Whitaker, a junior transfer from Stone Bridge who averaged 12 points last season. "I accepted my role with [Flint Hill], being that the majority of them are seniors. I just accepted to come off the bench."
The Huskies (22-3) downed Potomac School (17-8) for the third time this season, remained undefeated against conference challengers and extended their winning streak to nine.
Whitaker's 19 points helped the Huskies overcome a 22-point effort from Brian Freeman, Potomac School's 6-foot-8 senior who will play at Fordham. P.J. Miller, a Potomac School senior who scored 42 points in the team's first meeting this season, returned from a second-quarter injury late in the third quarter and finished with 17 points.
"The MAC title is on our checklist of goals from the beginning of the season," said Glover, a senior who went 10 for 10 from the free throw line.
Flint Hill has won at least a share of the MAC title in three of the past four seasons and defeated rival Potomac School in the past two conference tournament title games.
In this week's 53rd annual Sleepy Thompson tournament, a prestigious three-day, nine-team event in Alexandria, the Huskies will face Christchurch School -- a 16-8 prep power from Tidewater that played for a Virginia Prep League conference championship yesterday.
