Jantel Lavender had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Samantha Prahalis fueled No. 14 Ohio State's fast break to lead the Buckeyes past visiting Wisconsin, 75-53, last night, clinching at least a share of their fifth Big Ten championship in a row.
The piece of the title allowed the Buckeyes (23-5, 14-3) to match school and Big Ten records. Ohio State also won five straight titles from 1983 to '87.
Prahalis, leading the Big Ten in assists at almost six per game, finished with nine assists and three steals despite not playing most of the second half. Alyssa Karel scored 13 points to lead Wisconsin (16-13, 6-12).
-- NORTH CAROLINA 90, MIAMI 76: Cetera DeGraffenreid scored 23 points to lead the No. 9 Tar Heels past the Hurricanes on Senior Night in Chapel Hill, N.C. Rashanda McCants added 21 points and Jessica Breland had 16 points and 14 rebounds for UNC (25-4, 10-3 ACC). Lamese James scored 17 for the Hurricanes (13-15, 2-11).
-- LSU 63, TENNESSEE 61: Katherine Graham made two free throws with 7.9 seconds remaining to give the Lady Tigers a win over the No. 18 Lady Vols in Baton Rouge. LaSondra Barrett led LSU (16-9, 9-4 Southeastern Conference) with 18 points while Angie Bjorklund scored 21 points for Tennessee (19-9, 8-5), which lost for the third time in four games.
-- ARIZONA STATE 55, WASHINGTON 32: Danielle Orsillo scored 10 points to lead the host Sun Devils (21-6, 13-2 Pacific-10) to their team-record 13th straight win. The Huskies (6-20, 2-14) have lost 20 games for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.
-- GEORGIA TECH 73, VIRGINIA TECH 68: The Hokies rallied from an 11-point deficit with little more than five minutes left to force overtime before fading against the visiting Yellow Jackets. Utahya Drye scored 24 points and Shanel Harrison added a career-high 17 points for the Hokies (12-17, 2-12 ACC). Georgia Tech (20-8, 7-6) was paced by Jacqua Williams's 19 points.
-- HOFSTRA 71, GEORGE MASON 59: Joelle Connelly and Sam Brigham each scored 19 points to lead the Pride (16-11, 8-8 Colonial Athletic Association) at Patriot Center. Brittney Wilkins scored 15 points for the Patriots (4-23, 2-14), who made just 5 of 25 shots in the second half after scoring 40 points on 63 percent shooting in the first.
