Experience: Governor of Kansas, 2003-present; insurance commissioner, 1995-2003; Kansas House, 1987-1994; executive director, Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, 1978-1986; special assistant, Kansas secretary of corrections, 1975-1978.
Known for: Sebelius has never lost a political campaign; she is the first daughter of a governor (John J. Gilligan, Ohio, 1971-1975) to be elected to the same position; in 1994, she was elected as the state insurance commissioner, the first Democrat elected to that position since the 1880s.
Family: She and her husband, Gary, a federal magistrate, have two grown sons, Ned and John.
