Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Current Job: Managing director for health care at CCMP Capital, a private equity fund. Also served on the boards of several health-care companies, and the White House said she was in the process of severing all such ties.

Credentials: Was commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Human Services, and after a stint at the Office of Management and Budget in the Clinton administration, moved to the Health Care Financing Administration, which oversees Medicaid and Medicare, eventually becoming director. Went on to be a fellow at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

What She Offers: Has worked on health-care issues at the state and federal levels, as well as in the private sector. As a member of the president's task force on health care during the Clinton administration's efforts to push comprehensive reform, saw firsthand the pitfalls of a large-scale effort to overhaul the system.

Quote: "We put beneficiaries first in everything we've done." DeParle to the New York Times as she stepped down from the HCFA.
