NPR's Williams to Speak About 'Eyes on the Prize'
National Public Radio senior correspondent and Fox News political analyst Juan Williams is scheduled to speak Sunday at the annual Sherryl Talton-Gerald Educational Forum. Williams will discuss the PBS documentary series "Eyes on the Prize," which examined the civil rights movement. Williams wrote a companion book to the series.
Grace Episcopal Day School, which has locations in Kensington and Silver Spring, is sponsoring the event through its Sherryl Talton-Gerald Memorial Fund, established in 1999 to educate the school's community about the history, culture and achievements of African Americans.
The free forum is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Peoples Congregational United Church of Christ, 4704 13th St. NW, in Washington. For information or to make a reservation, call 301-949-9133, e-mail advancement@geds.org or go to http:/
McDonald's Offers Awards To 50 D.C. Area Students
High school seniors from across the Washington area who have demonstrated leadership, character, academic excellence and volunteerism are eligible for the McDonald's Educates Scholarship Program.
More than 50 student honorees will each receive a $1,500 scholarship to the college or university of their choice from McDonald's Family Restaurants of Greater Washington.
Recipients are chosen based on an application; a letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or community service leader; and two short essays. This year's essay topics ask students to explain the importance of cultural diversity and write a letter to President Obama discussing an issue that is important to them.
The application deadline is March 27. For information, go to http:/
