Off the Glass

With his team down 23-16 at halftime against No. 7 Arundel, Eleanor Roosevelt Coach Rod Hairston -- as superstitious a coach as there is in the area -- changed into the beige, short-sleeved, collared shirt he wore during last year's championship game win over the Wildcats. The move paid dividends: The second-ranked Raiders rallied for a 47-43 win.

With a win tomorrow against No. 2 Eleanor Roosevelt in the Maryland 4A final, the Blake girls' basketball team would earn the 11-year-old school's first team state title.

Former National Christian standout Will Barton has found a home at Lake Clifton, leading his new school to a 27-0 record and a berth in tomorrow's Maryland 3A final. Barton played his first two seasons at City College (Balt.), went to NCA for a season, and now the 6-foot-6 forward also is dealing with a bevy of college recruiters. "It's crazy right now," he said. "Right now, I've got one more game left in my high school season."
