Danielle Gant had 22 points and 14 rebounds and made the go-ahead basket with 25.3 seconds left as No. 10 Texas A&M held off No. 22 Kansas State, 63-61, yesterday in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals in Oklahoma City.
Playing in her home town, the 5-foot-11 senior went 9 of 13 from the field to help the Aggies (24-6) advance to play No. 3 Oklahoma in today's semifinals.
Ashley Sweat scored 19 points for the Wildcats, but missed a last-second 10-footer that would have sent the game into overtime. Marlies Gibson led Kansas State (24-7) with 22 points.
-- OKLAHOMA 76, KANSAS 59: Courtney Paris scored a season-high 27 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead the third-ranked Sooners in the Big 12 quarterfinals in Oklahoma City.
Paris, who has 124 double-doubles in 131 career college games, dominated the Jayhawks (18-13) inside and scored 10 points during a 15-4 run early in the second half as Oklahoma (28-3) broke open a close game. Danielle McCray scored 22 points to lead Kansas.
-- BAYLOR 67, OKLAHOMA ST. 62: Jessica Morrow and Melissa Jones each scored 15 points to help the No. 7 Bears rally from a 15-point deficit in the second half of their Big 12 quarterfinal in Oklahoma City.
The Cowgirls (16-15) led 43-28 with 16:33 left, but Baylor (25-5) went on a 10-0 run and took the lead with 1 minute 51 seconds left on two free throws by Kelli Griffin. The Bears scored the final eight points.
Baylor will play Iowa State in today's semifinals. Oklahoma State has lost 10 of its last 12 games.
-- IOWA STATE 59, TEXAS 55: In Oklahoma City, Kelsey Bolte hit a go-ahead turnaround jumper in the final minute as the No. 18 Cyclones went on to beat the Longhorns in the Big 12 quarterfinals. Alison Lacey went 5 of 6 from three-point range and finished with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Iowa State (24-7). Ashleigh Fontenette led Texas (21-11) with 13 points.
