Washington Wizards interim coach Ed Tapscott said yesterday that center Brendan Haywood, who has been out all season after injuring his right wrist during training camp, has been medically cleared to fully participate in practices.

Haywood underwent surgery to repair tendons in the wrist on Oct. 16. The team would like to see Haywood and guard Gilbert Arenas on the court before the regular season ends April 15, but one issue is a lack of practice time.

The team will practice today but then hits the road for a four-game trip that opens tomorrow night at Utah. It will not have another practice until March 24. At that point, only 10 games will remain in the season and time will be rapidly running out for Haywood or Arenas to return.

"He needs practices," Tapscott said of Haywood. "You know, the guy hasn't played since October, so it would be unfair to do anything other than give him the requisite number of practice repetitions to get him back. It's not even like training camp where the guys normally play for a month and a half before they go into camp. He's somebody who hasn't played in five, six months, so he needs quite a bit of practice. So we'll just play it by ear."

Arenas has been practicing off and on since Feb. 16 but has not traveled with the team since the all-star break and also will not make the trip this week.

Up Next Tomorrow at Utah 9 p.m. Comcast SportsNet, WTEM-980 Wednesday at L.A. Clippers 10:30 p.m. CSN+, WTEM-980
