Jeff Walz spent five seasons assisting Coach Brenda Frese at Maryland before taking the head coaching job at Louisville. But as he pointed out yesterday, their teams have different philosophies: "Maryland does an outstanding job on the offensive end," Walz said. "They can score points as fast as anyone I've seen. . . . Defensively, I think we can do a pretty good job of making it tough for teams to score." The Cardinals certainly did that in their 56-39 victory over Baylor in the round of 16; they held the Lady Bears to 0-for-8 shooting over the final eight minutes of the first half and 1-for-11 shooting for the last 8 minutes 56 seconds of the second half. Walz said the Cardinals are willing to use double-teams against senior Marissa Coleman, should she start to take over like she did against Vanderbilt (42 points). The Terrapins have faced several pressing teams this season -- North Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech, Rutgers -- and went 6-1; senior point guard Kristi Toliver had 29 assists and 34 turnovers in those games.
