Jordan Into Hall of Fame

Michael Jordan was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame yesterday. He was joined by his Dream Team teammates David Robinson and John Stockton. Utah Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan and Rutgers women's coach C. Vivian Stringer are also part of the 2009 class. Induction is Sept. 10-12 in Springfield, Mass. (Jordan, Robinson, Stockton career stats, D4)

"I don't like being up here for the hall of fame because at that time your basketball career is completely over," Jordan said. "I was hoping this day would be 20 more years, or actually go in when I'm dead and gone." . . .

The Los Angeles Clippers suspended forward Zach Randolph for two games after he was arrested for investigation of drunken driving hours after the team's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. . . .

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginรณbili is out for the rest of the season and the playoffs after tests showed his injured right ankle has worsened.


Burress Keeps Bonus

Plaxico Burress can keep his $1 million bonus, but the Kansas City Chiefs aren't obligated to pay Larry Johnson his guaranteed salary and bonuses over the next two seasons. That was the ruling NFL Players Association general counsel Richard Berthelsen said Special Master Stephen Burbank issued after the union's grievance hearing last week. . . . The Baltimore Ravens said Samari Rolle re-signed with the team. The cornerback agreed to a four-year contract after being cut last month. . . . Quarterback Jeff Garcia agreed to a deal with the Oakland Raiders.


Arizona Hires Miller

Xavier Coach Sean Miller is headed to the University of Arizona to succeed Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson. Miller said he would not have left Xavier except for the tradition and possibility of winning a national championship at Arizona. . . .

Memphis hired assistant coach Josh Pastner as successor to John Calipari. The 31-year-old Pastner coached for one year under Calipari and spent six years coaching under Olson at Arizona, where he also played. . . .

Washington State has hired Portland State Coach Ken Bone to be its new coach. . . .

Boston University has hired Villanova associate head coach Patrick Chambers to be its new coach. . . . Florida State Coach Leonard Hamilton agreed to a new five-year deal.
