Capitol College to Honor Outstanding Students
Capitol College in Laurel will hold its annual honors convocation at 3 p.m. today in the Arvum Gudelsky Memorial Auditorium. The college will recognize dean's list students, Space Operations Institute award winners and scholarship and honor society award recipients. Brig. Gen. Peter C. Hinz, assistant division commander of support in the Army's 29th Infantry Division, will speak on "The Meaning of Leadership in Today's Society."
Special Education Students Swim in Meet
Nearly 40 special education students and alumni from Prince George's County public schools competed Friday in a swim meet sponsored by the Special Olympics. The meet, held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex, also included members of community swim teams. The athletes competed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and mixed relay categories.
Twenty students from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at Thomas Claggett Elementary School opened the event by signing the national anthem.
Twenty-five special education staff members and 19 students from the Bowie High School Bulldogs swim team volunteered at the event.
Howard University Alumni Offer $500 Book Stipends
The Howard University Alumni Club of Prince George's County is accepting applications through May 1 for college scholarships.
The club will award three $500 bookstore stipends to high school seniors who are county residents and plan to attend Howard. Applications are available at http:/
Catholic Schools to Host Fair for Future Students
The Archdiocese of Washington and local Catholic high schools are hosting a fair for middle school students and their parents. The event is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 30 at the Marriott Greenbelt, 6400 Ivy Lane.
