Regarding the April 8 front-page article "D.C. Council Votes to Recognize Gay Nuptials Elsewhere":

In a country in which our Founding Fathers put so much stock in morality and family, it is a disappointment to watch the dominoes fall with regard to states adopting legitimacy for gay and lesbian unions.

I am quite sure that the engineers of our democracy, who devoted their lives to their cause, could not have foreseen such events. As the years go by, our freedoms have lent themselves to use by liberal politicians and courts that continue to shake the foundations of this country. This evolution has also been apparent in our schools and universities, as well as our communities.

I understand the right and privilege that Americans have to freedom of speech and religion, but I feel that we have crossed a line somewhere that our children, and our children's children, will pay a price for. Our current economic problems and wars abroad don't hold a candle, in the internal evolution of this country, to the problems we will face if we continue to disregard those godly truths held by those who fought for the independence of this country.
