It took nearly two years, but NBC Rewind, the broadcast network's media player, has served its one billionth full-episode stream, the company claims. Although the player launched in Oct. 2006, the player existed beta 18 months ago. The network interprets the milestone as meaning that watching full-length programming online has entered the mainstream. However, the company didn't offer a month-by month breakdown of NBC Rewind's streams, but it certainly wasn't high enough to make Nielsen Online's top 10 rankings (PDF) for March. Of the broadcast TV networks, ABC.com came in at number six, with 196 million video streams. Of course, ABC.com doesn't have a video site sibling like the NBCU/News Corp (NYSE: NWS). JV Hulu, which ranked number two with 348 million streams.
Despite the stated success with NBC Rewind, NBC's mobile video is taking a little longer to gain traction. The network insisted that it's making substantial progress. NBC.com's mobile website served 2.4 million video streams in Q1, which is more than the total number of streams served in all of last year. The last quarter was the mobile site's highest quarter so far, with 24 million pageviews, a 64 per cent increase over Q408. Release
