Ricci v. DeStefano is one of several cases the Supreme Court will consider during its final round of oral arguments this term that touch on race and civil rights concerns. Others include:
Horne v. Flores (tomorrow) -- Must Arizona comply with a long-standing federal court order to spend more money to improve its English-proficiency programs for non-native speakers if it meets the requirements of other federal education laws?
Cuomo v. the Clearing House Association (April 28) -- May New York and other states investigate racial and ethnic disparities in the mortgage rates charged by national banks, or does only the federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency have that power?
Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One v. Holder (April 29) Did Congress overstep its constitutional power by extending for another 25 years Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which requires some states and counties to seek federal approval before changing their election laws?
