Student Stabbed at Sherwood High School
A 12th-grader at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring pulled a knife on another student and cut him across the face yesterday, leaving the 10th-grader with a wound that required six to eight stitches between his lip and nose, according to school and police officials.
Officers found Isiah Hollins, 19, at his home in the 17000 block of Shotley Bridge Place in Olney after the attack and charged him with assault, possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds and disturbing school activities, police said.
The incident occurred about 11:20 a.m. during a lunch period at the school, school and police officials said. It wasn't clear what prompted the altercation, which was witnessed by other students who reported it to school staff.
The school was put on Code Blue, limiting students' movement, while police conducted their investigation.
The victim, 16, was treated at a hospital and was home by the end of the day, school officials said.

Council Primary Vote Count Continues
The special election vote count continues in Montgomery County. Board of Education member Nancy Navarro yesterday held on to her slim lead over Del. Benjamin F. Kramer in the Democratic primary contest to fill an open County Council seat in District 4.
Kramer narrowed Navarro's lead to 73 votes after yesterday's review of provisional ballots. Election officials are scheduled to count at least 108 absentee ballots Friday.
Navarro and Kramer were among the six Democrats and three Republicans competing in last week's election to succeed council member Don Praisner, who died in January after undergoing surgery for colon cancer.
Republican Robin Ficker easily won his party's nomination, but the Democratic race was too close to call on election night. The winners of the primaries will go on to a May 19 general election.

Census Office Locked During Police Pursuit
Security officers at the U.S. Census office on Silver Hill Road in Suitland placed the facility on lockdown for about an hour yesterday morning after a car theft suspect allegedly jumped a security fence at the government office.
According to Metro officials, two Oxon Hill residents were charged with breaking into cars at the Branch Avenue Metro station.
One suspect was arrested at the station; the other fled in a stolen car, crashed it on Silver Hill Road and jumped the fence at the census office. The suspect hid in the office's employee parking garage and was later arrested.
Census officials increased security at the Suitland Federal Center from 11:25 a.m. until about 12:20 p.m. Census spokesman Stephen Buckner said no one at the facility was injured.
