Ex-Employee Admits Stealing School Property

A Maryland man pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing more than $30,000 in computer equipment from D.C. public schools.

Hakeem Blaize, 27, a former D.C. schools employee, admitted that he stole the equipment between December 2006 and October 2008, federal prosecutors said. He sold the equipment in Maryland and Virginia.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 4 in U.S. District Court and faces six to 12 months under federal sentencing guidelines.

Police Name Suspect in Fatal Shooting

D.C. police identified a suspect yesterday in a shooting Sunday that left one woman dead and three other people wounded near Howard University.

Senneca Benjamin, 31, allegedly shot and killed Monique C. Nalle, 42, about 3 p.m. at her apartment in the unit block of Bryant Street NW, in the Bloomingdale neighborhood. Three other victims, whose names have not been released, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

D.C. police offer a reward of as much as $25,000 for a tip leading to a conviction in a homicide case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 202-727-9099 or 888-919-2746.
