Alex Rodriguez will return to the New York Yankees for their game tonight in Baltimore.
The team announced that Rodriguez would rejoin the team on Thursday, a few hours after the third baseman played in his final rehab game in Florida. He went 0 for 2 with two walks and played three innings of defense.
Rodriguez had surgery March 9 on his right hip but has recovered more quickly than expected.
Rodriguez shook hands and thanked members of the support staff at the Yankees' minor league complex in Tampa for their work after taking extra grounders and batting practice following the intrasquad game.
-- DIAMONDBACKS: Arizona fired Manager Bob Melvin, and will announce a replacement before today's game against the Nationals in Phoenix.
Melvin went 337-340 in four-plus seasons with the team and had one year left on a contract he received after being the 2007 NL manager of the year.
-- OZARK DIES: Former Phillies manager Danny Ozark, who led Philadelphia to three consecutive National League East titles but fell short of the World Series each time, died yesterday. He was 85. [More in Metro, B5.]
