Elephant Takes Part in Wedding
CONNECTICUT AVE. NW, 1100 block. Humane Society officers responding to a report about an elephant that was being used in a wedding observed a female elephant and a few horses as part of a ceremony. The officers spoke to the owner to ensure that the animals were receiving proper care.
Rottweiler's Hair Loss Treated
15TH ST. SE, 3400 block. A Humane Society officer responding to a call about a Rottweiler with hair loss in the back yard of a house met with the owner and recommended that the dog be taken to a veterinarian. The next day, the owner called saying that the dog was taken to a veterinarian and was diagnosed and treated for severe allergies.
Ducks on a Fountain Swim
LINNEAN AVE. NW, 4100 block, April 26. Tourists called animal control about a group of ducklings that appeared trapped in a large fountain. A responding animal control officer found a mother duck with 10 ducklings swimming in the fountain, and the ducklings were able to climb in and out of the ledges. They were determined to be safe and healthy, and no further action was needed.
Fraidy-Cat Gets Soaked
THIRD ST. NW, 500 block, April 29. A woman called animal control about her cat that had slipped out through an open window and was stuck on the fire escape of the apartment building. The cat was afraid to make its way back inside and had been sitting outside in the rain for two days. Animal control officers rescued the cat and returned it to the owner.
Runaway Pit Bulls
E ST. SE, 5300 block, May 2. Residents called animal control about two pit bull terriers huddled behind an apartment building. Both dogs appeared to be injured and were seen running around in the area. Animal control officers captured the dogs, which were taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment. The dogs were to be evaluated and made available for adoption.
