What to Watch: Obama to Announce New Auto Standards

-- President Obama honors the Small Business Administration's National Small Business Winners of the Year at the White House. He also announces ambitious new nationwide fuel economy and emissions standards for new cars. [Story, A1]

-- Vice President Biden will be in Sarajevo, where he will meet with top Bosnian officials and address the parliament.

-- Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, below, in Washington, where he will meet separately with Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.), ranking minority member of the committee; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.); Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid; Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.); and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates.

-- The Republican National Committee is holding its State Chairmen's Meeting at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center at National Harbor.

-- Is the recession abating? The Commerce Department releases numbers on April housing starts today, and green shoots are expected.

-- Nominations in progress: The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee hears testimony from nominees Aneesh Choprah, to be the nation's first chief technology officer; John D. Porcari, to be deputy secretary at the Transportation Department; J. Randolph Babbitt, to be administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration; and Rebecca M. Blank, to be the undersecretary for economic affairs in the Commerce Department.
