Congressional Bank Baseball Classic
What: A daylong event, featuring a DCIAA championship game, a private school championship, a championship game matching those two winners and an all-star game for top players on teams throughout the District.
When: Today, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Where: Nationals Park
Tickets: $5 adults, students free
Schedule: DCIAA final, Wilson vs. H.D. Woodson, 9:30 a.m.; Gonzaga vs. St. Albans, 12:30 p.m.; all-star game, 3:30 p.m.; championship game, 6:30 p.m.
Notable: St. Albans beat Wilson, 6-1, in last year's championship game and both will be favored to advance to tonight's title game. St. Albans (24-6) is led by P-SS Matt Bowman, who has put together a spectacular season and led the Bulldogs to a share of the Interstate Athletic Conference title. The Princeton recruit is batting .419 with 16 doubles, 39 RBI and 28 runs scored. On the mound, he has 10 complete games in 11 starts and is 10-1 with three saves and a 0.70 ERA. Bowman will pitch against Gonzaga today. The Eagles (11-14) advanced to the game by beating Maret, 2-1, in 11 innings.
Wilson (15-8) has a new coach, as former assistant Eddie Smith has replaced longtime coach Eddie Saah, but not much else has changed as the Tigers continue to dominate league opposition. The Tigers are trying to win their 17th consecutive DCIAA title and have won 220 of their past 221 games against league opponents, including a 12-2 victory over Bell in Thursday's DCIAA semifinals while H.D. Woodson (14-0) beat School Without Walls, 13-12, in the other semifinal.
