GREENVILLE, N.C. -- George Mason was eliminated from the Greenville regional of the NCAA baseball tournament, falling to Binghamton, 11-6, a day after losing to South Carolina in the opening round. The third-seeded Patriots finished 42-14, tying a school record for victories set by the 1976 team that went to the NAIA World Series.
The Patriots had 14 hits and stranded 16 base runners. George Mason's Dan Schafferman had four hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning. Kevin Crum (8-4) took the loss, allowing nine hits and seven runs in six innings.
The game came shortly after fourth-seeded Binghamton (30-21) lost to host and No. 1 seed East Carolina 11-7 in a weather-delayed game that had been scheduled for Friday night. In George Mason's first game, an 11-3 loss to the Gamecocks, Chris Henderson went 1 for 3 with two RBI.
