On Saturday, Sprint (NYSE: S) will start selling the Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre, which both Sprint and Palm are banking to be their "hero" device for recapturing some of its lost marketshare.

So far, the tech media has given the device rave reviews for having a great user interface and design. Will it live up to the hype? Will it be the biggest competitor to the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone? It's too early to say, but so far we've seen one guy already get in line for the device, and one guy get a tattoo of the device to win a free (mind you, $199) phone.

Of course, the company is expecting the phone to sell out in the early days. However, if there are indeed shortages, some analysts, are accusing Palm of deliberately keeping the supply down to create a "sell out" device. We will provide you with updates from a Palm Pre pre-event on Friday in Seattle that runs from 6 p.m. to midnight. Of course, you may have a chance to bypass all the craziness, by buying the device online, at Best Buy, Radio Shack and certain Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) stores.
