New York actress Carla Harting, who had been starring in the world premiere of "Legacy of Light" at Arena Stage in Crystal City, has left the production after breaking her left leg Sunday in a bike accident.
Both Sunday performances of the Karen Zacarías comedy were canceled.
Washington actress Jennifer Mendenhall, fresh off of playing the lead in Solas Nua's "Woman and Scarecrow," will replace Harting for the rest of the run, which ends June 14. Mendenhall -- who also appeared recently in "The Accident" at Theater J and "A Beautiful View" at Studio Theatre 2ndStage -- is an 11-time Helen Hayes Award nominee, winning in 1989 for "Aunt Dan and Lemon" at Woolly Mammoth.
Harting, who had surgery for compound fractures, was portraying Olivia Hastings Brown, a present-day Princeton astronomer. Harting has also acted at Arena Stage in "A Delicate Balance" and "Passion Play."
