Alexandria to Consider Changing Election Dates

The Alexandria City Council will hold a public hearing next week on a proposal to move City Council and School Board elections from May to November. The ordinance would be effective in 2012 and would make no other changes to the electoral process.

The hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. June 13 in City Hall.

For information on the proposal, see http://dockets.alexandriava.gov/fy09/051609ph/di6.pdf.

Certain Alexandria Fees Are Due June 15

For property owners in Alexandria, the first half this year's real estate tax and refuse fee payments is due June 15. Payments must be postmarked or received by the city by that date.

Residents who haven't received a bill or don't have real estate taxes paid by a mortgage company can call the Treasury Division at 703-838-4777 or 703-746-3902 or e-mail payments@alexandria.gov.

Property owners can pay in person at the Treasury Division, in Room 1510 at City Hall (301 King St.), between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For information, see http://alexandriava.gov/realestatetax.
