-- He may be arriving in Egypt to give a widely anticipated speech to the Muslim world, but President Obama will not be leaving without seeing the only survivor among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the pyramids of Giza, now surrounded by an impoverished Cairo neighborhood. After a welcome ceremony at the Quba Palace -- a common site for Egyptian diplomatic meetings -- Obama meets with President Hosni Mubarak and then tours the Sultan Hassan Mosque, one of the largest in the world, with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
At 6 a.m. Eastern time, Obama addresses the Muslim world from Cairo University. After the speech, he tours the pyramids and nearby Sphinx.
-- Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor enters day three of meetings on Capitol Hill. She is scheduled to meet with Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and Ted Kaufman (D-Del.).
-- At 10 a.m., the House Natural Resources subcommittee on energy and mineral resources holds a hearing on "Unconventional Fuels, Part I: Shale Gas Potential." Expect to hear more talk of hydraulic fracturing, a method used to help extract shale gas.
-- Two House Natural Resources subcommittees hold a joint hearing on "White-Nose Syndrome: What's Killing Bats in the Northeast?" The hearing comes in the wake of a letter from lawmakers urging more funding for research on the animal disease, thought to be caused by a novel fungus.
-- The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee holds a hearing on "Regulatory Reform and the Derivatives Markets," featuring testimony from Gary G. Gensler, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and others.
