Scouting Mississippi

The Rebels were the Southeastern Conference regular season co-champions but were bounced from the SEC tournament in two games. Ole Miss rebounded by winning its regional in four games. Top pitcher Drew Pomeranz is 8-4 with a 3.46 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 88.1 innings. He pitched a complete game with a career-high 16 strikeouts to tie the school's single-game record in Monday's regional finale against Western Kentucky. Outfielder Jordan Henry leads the SEC in stolen bases (35) and walks (53) and is batting .347.

Scouting Virginia

The Cavaliers are perhaps the hottest team in the nation after winning the ACC tournament championship and twice beating UC-Irvine, which entered the tournament as the nation's top-ranked team. Virginia's strength has been pitching and defense. Freshman Danny Hultzen (St. Albans) will start today's game for the Cavaliers. He is 9-1 with a 2.01 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings. The offense is paced by outfielder Jarrett Parker, who leads the Cavaliers with 16 home runs and is tied for the team lead with a .378 batting average and 19 stolen bases.
