In the Virginia A girls' soccer semifinals, defending state champion George Mason defeated Wilson Memorial, 3-0, to advance to today's championship at 10 a.m. at Radford University.
The Mustangs got goals from sophomore Violet Miller, freshman Leah Roth and senior Mayssa Chehata as they turned away Wilson Memorial for the second time this season -- they beat the Green Hornets, 3-1, in the Region B final.
Today will be George Mason's fifth trip to the state final, where it will face Radford -- a 4-0 winner over James River in yesterday's other semifinal.
George Mason defeated Radford in penalty kicks in last year's state semifinals.
Since 2002, the Mustangs (18-2-1) have claimed three state titles, dominating the A division.
In last year's state final, George Mason rolled over Goochland, 7-1.
"We've talked about other teams coming in with motivation because they haven't been where we've been before," said George Mason Coach Jennifer Parsons. "My girls are so competitive and they've been here before. They definitely want to go home with that trophy."
George Mason Boys Advance
A penalty kick by Andrew Arias in the 64th minute lifted George Mason to a 1-0 win over Stonewall Jackson of Mount Jackson to reach the Virginia A boys' soccer final at Radford University.
George Mason will face the Radford-Virginia High winner in the final today at noon.
The Mustangs are looking to win their fourth state title in school history and first since 2004.
