A 19-year-old Capitol Heights woman was killed late last night when the car in which she was riding veered off Suitland Parkway and into some trees, U.S. Park Police said.

Keyanna Bowser was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Ford Focus that crashed about 11:20 p.m. and landed on its side, in a wooded area between Suitland Road and Forestville Road, said Sgt. David Schlosser, a Park Police spokesman. Bowser was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the car, a woman whose name was not released, was trapped in her seat, with her legs immobilized under the dashboard, Schlosser said. After 2 1/2 hours, Prince George's County fire and rescue personnel extricated her from the vehicle, and she was flown to Washington Hospital Center with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.

Two men who were sitting in the back seat of the car were not seriously injured and were able to get out on their own, Schlosser said. There were taken to Prince George's Hospital Center.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, police said.
