Ages: Bobbie is 38, and Juan is 35.

Background: The Wilsons live in Bowie and have been married for two years. The couple has five children between them from their current and previous marriages -- LaQuanda, Shemel, Tyshona, DeJuan and Neylah.

Bobbie is a paralegal but was laid off in January, along with 200 others at her firm. An information technology specialist, Juan was laid off with 500 others in 2008.

In the past few years, both Bobbie and Juan have experienced a great deal of career instability -- layoffs, temporary assignments and contract terminations. At one point, they were together making about $98,000 a year.

The couple has roughly $8,000 in credit card debt, and Bobbie has a $35,000 student loan in deferment.

Update: Bobbie got a temporary job as a paralegal. The position has allowed the couple to catch up on some of their bills.

Juan is still looking for employment. He looks for work daily -- checking employment ads and sending out applications. He's trying to get a service job at a warehouse and went on his third interview with the company. He's still waiting to hear back.

"I'm hoping and praying that Juan gets a job soon," Bobbie said.
