When Republicans Stray From Their Vows

Saturday, June 20, 2009

"In the GOP Caucus, Prayers for the Sinner -- but Mostly Silence" [Washington Sketch, June 18] described the epidemic of "no comments" and averted gazes from Sen. John Ensign's (mostly Republican) colleagues when faced with news of his extramarital affair. Mr. Ensign had supported a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. Like several other Republicans caught in sex scandals, he was known for preaching traditional family values.

It is clear to me that we need a constitutional amendment to protect the sanctity of marriage from Republican politicians.
