Gisele and Tom, Plus One
That was fast: Newlyweds Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady are expecting a baby, People magazine reports.
The news backs up recent speculation along the same lines, beginning when Bündchen was photographed in Brazil this week with what looked like a tell-tale bump.
"I think family is the base to everything," Bündchen, who turns 29 next month, told People recently. "I think that is one of the things I'm most grateful for. I have a lot to be grateful for, but I think that's definitely number one."
Bündchen and Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, were married twice this spring -- first quietly in Los Angeles on Feb. 26, then with friends in early April at Bündchen's home in Costa Rica. The baby will be Bündchen's first; Brady has a son with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.CBS Mum on Cronkite
CBS News has declined to comment on reports that veteran newsman Walter Cronkite is gravely ill, the Associated Press reports.
The 92-year-old former anchor of "The CBS Evening News," who has been ailing for some time, has reportedly taken a turn for the worse, according to various Web reports. But CBS News spokesman Kevin Tedesco had no comment yesterday.
Cronkite left the "Evening News" anchor desk in 1981, but after that kept a busy schedule both in journalistic and other activities. For 24 years, he served as on-site host for New Year's day telecasts by the Vienna Philharmonic until ill health forced him to bow out earlier this year.Bo the Dog Has His Day
There's not much we can tell you about the just-released official White House portrait of first puppy Bo Obama . . . except that, yes, he's still adorable, and still treating his office with the dignity and respect it deserves. (That dignity and respect, of course, includes his penchant for munching on jackets and microphones belonging to journalists.)
It's unclear if there's precedent for a first-pet glamour shot, but Bo joins the ranks of other much-documented White House pets. The Clintons' cat, Socks, and dog, Buddy, were well-known West Wing fixtures, while the Bush family's dogs, Barney and Miss Beazley, starred in several annual installments of Barney Cam.Jack on the Town
Jack Nicholson has landed! The latest updates on James L. Brooks's still-untitled movie, filming yesterday in Washington:
Reese Witherspoon -- red sundress, wedge sandals, messy hair -- filmed some early-afternoon scenes along R Street NW, not far from the Scottish Rite Temple.
Nicholson, reported to have been in talks to play Paul Rudd's "blueblood father," showed up on set in Dupont Circle yesterday. In scenes shot near La Tomate restaurant and the Church of Scientology building, Nicholson (oversize white shirt, hair flopping around) chased after Rudd; gawkers gathered in great numbers.End Note
Spotted: Tony Hawk at the White House yesterday. The pro skateboarder twittered his way through a visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and -- prompted by a tweet from Ashton Kutcher -- posted a photo of himself skateboarding inside. . . . Jenna Bush Hager (strapless, floor-length coral dress, beige cardigan) and her husband, Henry (white button-down, dark trousers), seeing "Spring Awakening" at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre Thursday night. The low-key couple slipped out while the cast got a standing ovation.
