William & Mary is looking for a mascot and ideas have ranged from a feathered horse to an asparagus stalk.
The school said more than 400 nominations have been submitted. William & Mary for decades was known as the Indians, but changed its nickname to the Tribe in the 1980s.
The NCAA ruled in 2006 that the college could keep the Tribe nickname but its feathered logo was demeaning to Native Americans and had to go. School President Taylor Revely will make the final decision. . . .
Tulsa basketball coach Doug Wojcik has agreed to a new six-year contract to remain with the Golden Hurricane. Wojcik is 81-53 in four years with Tulsa, including 25-11 last season.
Wojcik was the starting point guard on Navy's 1986 NCAA tournament region finalist. . . .
Veteran defensive tackle La'Roi Glover is retiring after 13 NFL seasons. Glover, who turns 35 on July 4, spent the past three seasons with the St. Louis Rams. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders and also played for the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.
