Looking to retool his coaching staff, Georgetown men's basketball coach John Thompson III has tapped a familiar pipeline.
Thompson announced Wednesday that he has named Michael Brennan, a fellow Princeton graduate and an assistant during Thompson's coaching tenure at his alma mater, an as assistant coach at Georgetown.
Brennan fills the vacancy created by the departure of Robert Burke, who was dismissed in the spring.
Brennan comes to the Hilltop from American University, where he served as an assistant to Jeff Jones for two seasons. Before that, he was an assistant at Princeton for seven years, working under Thompson, Bill Carmody and Joe Scott.
"His knowledge and understanding of the game are invaluable," Thompson said in a statement released by the university. "But just as important is his ability to teach, instruct and pass that knowledge on to our players. His experiences as a player and coach will provide us with varied insights."
This past season, the Eagles won their second straight Patriot League title and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second time in school history. Georgetown, meantime, limped to its worst finish in the Thompson era, finishing 16-15 after a loss to Baylor in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Brennan was a four-year starter for Pete Carill during his time at Princeton, and helped lead the Tigers to three Ivy League titles. Brennan graduated with a degree in English in 1994 and went on the play professionally Europe.
