Reactions to the June 21 story "A Change in Mission," about a Marine battalion's battle against insurgents in Afghanistan

Jack E. Boucher of Silver Spring e-mails:

Wow! The article in today's Magazine section "A Change in Mission" by Kristin Henderson was absolutely one of the finest war articles I've ever had the pleasure to read. I had to search high and low to find the photo credit, and it was Ms. Henderson who handled the camera. Her eye with the camera and her hand with the pen [errr, laptop] is a combination that any editor should salivate to find and have on the payroll!

Dan Grove of Fairfax e-mails:

Congratulations to you and Ms. Henderson for one of the best journalistic efforts I have read in a very long time. Extremely well done, captivating yet tender. I am sending it to friends around the world.

Excellent reading for insight into on-the-ground military operations in Afghanistan. As a Vietnam War veteran, I feel the writer did justice to the sense of duty to mission and brothers-in-arms during combat operations.

From online comments about Tom Sietsema's June 21 review of Brabo by Robert Wiedmaier

I have to say I'm surprised at this review. I've dined at Brabo twice and at the Tasting Room countless times for lunch and found the food to be extremely pleasing. I agree that the chicken dish [at Brabo's] is outstanding at dinner, but I find it hard to believe that the pork shank is not mentioned here. I've tasted it from someone else's plate, and it was fantastic. ... As for the Tasting Room, I work in the area and find it a refreshing alternative to the other places on King Street.

Ted Zaleski of Westminster, Md., e-mails:

I am very sorry to see Tom Shroder go. The Post is holding up better than many papers, but the signs of the deteriorating newspaper industry are easily visible.

The Post Magazine remains one of the few bright spots. I hope you will fight to keep it strong. I always enjoy reading it and hope to hold on to the pleasure for a while longer.
