An incident in which a man was believed to be barricaded in a Wheaton apartment ended Sunday night when police entered the apartment but found no occupants, Montgomery County police said.
Police had restricted or shut off traffic for several hours in the area around the scene in the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue before entering around 7:40 p.m.
Police said they had been told the man was in the apartment and that it was not clear whether he had a weapon or held a hostage.
The area is near Wheaton Plaza and the Wheaton station on the Metro rail system's Red Line.
