A man was taken to the hospital for injuries to his head and arm this morning after he got into a fight with another man on the platform of a Metro station and was pushed into the side of an oncoming train.

The injuries were not life-threatening, and the incident did not affect train service, said Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein. No one was arrested.

Farbstein said the two men were at the Gallery Place station, on the lower level, on the side of the tracks where Green Line trains head towards Branch Avenue.

About 6:40 a.m., the men "got into an altercation," Farbstein said. "One of them shoved the other" into the side of a middle car of a train that was arriving at the platform, she added.

According to a preliminary report, the injured man suffered visible bruising to his head and arm, Farbstein said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
