The new Virginia law against texting while driving ["Prohibition on Texting by Drivers Starts in Va.," Metro, July 1] specifies a $20 fine for the first offense. Something is out of proportion here. I recently was fined six times that amount ($120) in Fairfax County for turning right on red after only slowing -- to less than 5 mph -- and not coming to a full stop at the light.
