Every year, it's the same for us on the Fourth of July: Eat perfectly acceptable barbecue, set off fireworks, act super-apologetic when the cops show up.

With so many folks granted a reprieve from work tomorrow, why not stretch your Independence Day rituals to a whole two days?

-- The Bowie Baysox offer an annual game and fireworks for the holiday -- and the tickets are a steal. The game is against the Akron Aeros, followed by the fireworks.

$6-$14. Friday at 6:05 p.m. Prince George's Stadium, 4101 Crain Hwy., Bowie. 301-464-4865 or visit http://www.baysox.com.

-- The "Capitol Fourth" concert is always a big deal on Independence Day. But it's an open secret that the dress rehearsal the night before is a great time to see the celebs. Head to the West Lawn of the Capitol tomorrow instead of Saturday; the rehearsal runs from 8 to 10:30 p.m. (Gates open at 3 p.m.) The acts include Aretha Franklin, Natasha Bedingfield -- and Barry "I Wanna Do It With You" Manilow (though the likelihood of him playing that number is pretty much nil).

For details about "A Capitol Fourth," visit http://www.pbs.org/capitolfourth.

-- Also tomorrow, Loda, 88 Music's regular event in Silver Spring, pulls out the grill and gets the electronic music pumping at 7 p.m. (while there's still daylight!). Ray Casil is first up on the Gallery lounge's patio; inside, find Bear Who? and Juan Zapata and others spinning till the wee hours of Saturday morning.

$5 before 10 p.m.; $10 from 10 p.m. to midnight; $15 after that. 7 p.m.-close tomorrow. Gallery, 1115 East West Hwy., Silver Spring. 301-589-2555 or http://www.eightyeightdc.com.

Get tickets now for the area's best events.
