Ashburn Townhouse Fire Displaces Family of Five

A fire in a townhouse Wednesday displaced an Ashburn family of five.

Loudoun County emergency officials received a call just before 9 a.m. about a fire at 21200 Hedgerow Terr.

Several residents were home and evacuated safely. The family is making arrangements for temporary housing with the American Red Cross.

Fire and rescue crews were on the scene for three hours completing salvage and overhaul. No injuries were reported. A firefighter suffered a cut on the hand and was treated on the scene.

The Loudoun Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the blaze.

Leesburg Police Plan Community Meeting

The Leesburg Police Department is holding a community meeting at 7 p.m. July 14 for residents in District 1, which includes the areas north of Catoctin Circle and north of Edwards Ferry Road NE.

The meeting will be at police headquarters, 65 Plaza St. NE. The public will meet community policing officers, who are available to attend community and business meetings by request.

County, Area Stores Seek School Supplies for Needy

Area stores and the Loudoun County Department of Family Services are teaming up for a school supply drive to help children from low-income families.

Shoppers can donate school supplies this month at Giant stores, the Leesburg Pharmacy, Curves in Purcellvile, the Cascades and Ashburn libraries and all county community centers.

Loudoun nonprofit groups, government agencies and elementary schools working with low-income families will distribute the supplies in time for school in September.

Needed supplies include book bags, spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, pencils, loose-leaf three-ring paper, scissors, rulers, crayons, composition books, pocket folders, plastic storage bags and liquid soap.
